Paper & Stone Calendar
Paper & Stone Calendar 2015
Daily memo/Calendar Cement, autocopy paper 110x110x450mm For Client: 21 CAKE The client 21 CAKE is a leading online bakery brand in mainland China, specialized in clean-cut squre shaped cake. The square shape is a key brand identity, along with modern color palette and simple design. This project is a commission, to design a New Year gift for 21 cake VIP customers. The form was chosen-a daily calendar, a perfect companion for a whole year. The cake was fresh, genuine and delicious, while the styling is keen on geometric forms and sometimes cold modern aesthestics. It builds a nice contrast for a bakery brand. What's more, the storytelling feature is always a unique aspect of the products they made, especially for the food accessories and packagings. The inspiration was taken from modern architecture, and naturally the form and material follow. Human-object interaction was certainly addressed, for the action of writing on and tearing down on piece each day is a perfect platform to create such stories. The date is printed descreetly at upper left corner, leaving space for doodle. But instead of normal papers, we chose a non-carbon autocopy paper which is pressure-sensitive. Where pressure applied, a blue trace will be shown. This also gives the edge of the paper pad a beautiful blue color, due to the mould cutting during production. So the story goes, the things written yesterday, is clearly seen on today's paper, the day before was a bit blurry, then things from last week, might just be a hint or a hardly readable blur. So the calendar becomes not only a object with function-reflection of time passing, but a poetic visualization of the traces, the effects that incidents and small happenings that had on us, the days overlappig with one and another slowly faded into memories. |
