"How can art be realized?
Out of volumes, motion, spaces bounded by the great space, the universe. Out of different masses, tight, heavy, middling—indicated by variations of size or color—directional line—vectors which represent speeds, velocities, accelerations, forces, etc. . . .—these directions making between them meaningful angles, and senses, together defining one big conclusion or many. Spaces, volumes, suggested by the smallest means in contrast to their mass, or even including them, juxtaposed, pierced by vectors, crossed by speeds. Nothing at all of this is fixed. Each element able to move, to stir, to oscillate, to come and go in its relationships with the other elements in its universe. It must not be just a fleeting moment but a physical bond between the varying events in life. Not extractions, But abstractions Abstractions that are like nothing in life except in their manner of reacting."

Notes taken from exhibition-'Phantom limbs' in danish design musuem. March 2012.
Phantom limbs-coupling psychic presence with phisical absence, reveal the complex and interwined relationship between the internal spaces of mind and the external spaces we inhabit.(* real environment) Horror Vacui- Collyers' collection. We fight off meaninglessness void by classifying, categorizing and grouping the phenomena of the world. Fear of losing ourselves in a fluctuating world. By knowing things we fix them in place, and thereby we fixate ourselves." Anamorphosis -The Ambassador-Hans Holbein http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anamorphosis

Through Happenings, the separation between life, art, artist, and audience becomes blurred. The "Happening" allows the artist to experiment with body motion, recorded sounds, written and spoken texts, and even smells. "Objects of every sort are materials for the new art: paint, food, chairs, electric and neon lights, smoke, water, old socks, a dog, movies, a thousand other things which will be discovered by the present generation of artists..." to gather together signs and to move them from a private realm to a public one with the purpose of holding on to the source material of memory (Derrida 1995); it enables memory by becoming a repository of the impressions of our past. In society and culture it is important to give voice and visibility to those who are suppressed, unheard and lacking positive representation. We claim that the use of personal photographs with the process of intimate listening and discussions can extend the story and its private and intimate content to a public and cultural context. This kind of action can reveal the cultural taboos and everyday practises that shape concepts of self and knowledge of the world. I am thinking: is there a place designed for people to be quietly thinking, a place to watch time running, a meditation space?
I found sth on the Internet and quoted them. "meditation has been laid stress upon by all religions. The meditative state of mind is declared by the Yogis to be the highest state in which the mind exists. When the mind is studying the external object, it gets identified with it, loses itself. To use the simile of the old Indian philosopher: the soul of man is like a piece of crystal, but it takes the colour of whatever is near it. Whatever the soul touches ... it has to take its colour. That is the difficulty. That constitutes the bondage." "..在印度教徒看来,任何神灵降附的东西都是可崇拜并会带来功德的,因而一幅画像、一尊雕像、草木石头都可以成为偶像。 " David Lynch is always my inspiration. He talked about meditation and creativity in his book "catching the big fish". |
